MY FIRST TRAVELS Greece, Paris, London, Munich, Rhine Valley, Bruxelles, French Riviera, Amsterdam, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia
I made my first trip at the age of 17 in 1967 to Greece when the fascist colonels were in charge.
It was a reward trip, thanks to my scholastic successes and the fact that I had placed very well in the national shorthand championship in Montecatini.
Half of the awarded students were Roman, the rest from all over Italy!
It was a beautiful journey among Athens, Olympia, Mycenae, Corinth, Nauplia, Epidaurus, Cape Sunion, Delphi, etc..
In the following years I limited myself to traveling from Trieste to my Istria also on weekends and in the summer to the beautiful islands of Dalmatia from Veliah to Cres, Lussinpiccolo, Arbe, Pag.
The coast is also beautiful from Ragusa to Split, Zadar, Å ibenik, Trau, etc. and the interior with the splendid Plitvice park.
Slovenia is no less, with beautiful mountains, rivers (the Isonzo) and lakes (Bled, Bohini), the Triglav national park and the small coastal area with my hometown of Capodistria/Koper and then Isola d'Istria (where was born Nino Benvenuti the great boxer), Piran (the delightful city of Tartini) and Portoroz with its casinos, the beautiful sandy beach and the well-equipped tourist port.
In 1969 I went to Paris with school, the last year before graduating.
In the same year I drove in summer around the splendid and nearby Austria.in the company of a friend.
In 1973, after the military service and entering the world of work (in a bank), I went to visit London and Munich during the Oktober Fest.
The following year I crossed by car from Trieste to Salzburg, Bavaria, the long Rhine valley with its castles, Cologne, Koblenz, almost all of Netherlands including the August 15th swim in the cold North Sea, then beautiful Brussels which was celebrating 750 years of life and returning to Paris before going home to Lyon and the splendid Côte d'Azur, the French Riviera, then the Italian Riviera of Liguria, a stop in Verona and arrival in Trieste
Then again Istria and Dalmatia until 1982 my first six weeks long trip to USA s
