FLORENCE

Immediately after Rome, from a tourist and artistic point of view, comes Florence, perhaps fighting with Venice. The city of the Medici that fascinates you with its squares, its monuments, its churches, its palaces and its museums among which the Uffizi Gallery stands out, the most important Italian art gallery which contains high-level masterpieces such as Botticelli's paintings (the Birth of Venus and Spring) the majesty of All Saints by Giotto, the battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello, the Madonna and Child by Filippo Lippi, the dukes of Urbino by Piero della Francesca, the Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci, the Madonna of the Goldfinch by Raffaello Sanzio, the Venus of Urbino by Tiziano Vecellio, the Bacchus by Caravaggio. The Accademia Gallery which contains Michelangelo's absolute masterpiece, the statue of David which was originally located in Piazza della Signoria in front of the Palazzo Vecchio and was then moved for safety reasons to make room for a copy. The Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral and Giotto's bell tower, the first with the white, pink and green marble façade begun at the end of 1300 and finished 150 years later with Brunelleschi's dome. Piazza della Signoria, with the residence of the Medici, the Palazzo Vecchio and the statue of Perseus with the severed head of the Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini under the Loggia. La Basilica di Santa Maria Novella realizzata a metà del 1300 da Leon Battista Alberti che contiene l'affresco della Trinità del Masaccio, gli affreschi di Filippo Lippi e del Ghirlandaio. Il ponte Vecchio sull'Arno che un tempo ospitava le botteghe dei macellai e dopo un editto mediceo le botteghe di gioiellieri e orafi, suggestivo e romantico da meritare più foto. Palazzo Pitti coi suoi sei musei che appartenne ad una famiglia di banchieri caduta in rovina e poi rilevato dai Medici che lo ampiarono fino a 200 metri di lunghezza e 30 in altezza. Dietro ci sono i giardini dei Boboli, il primo esempio di giardino all'italiana con le siepi tagliate geometricamente e con vicoli regolari. Dentro una grotta artificiale del Buontalenti ornata da una Venere del Giambologna e poi il Forte di Belvedere che offre una terrazza panoramica. La Basilica di Santa Croce espressione del gotico italiano con la statua di Dante sul sagrato e dentro la cappella dei pazzi del Brunelleschi nel chiostro a destra della Chiesa.
