ESTONIA

It is the northernmost Baltic Republic with the capital TALLINN which in my opinion is the most beautiful city of the three countries with the usual historic center protected by UNESCO but this time for the Gothic style.
This year Tallinn is the city of European culture and is located 1 and a half hours by catamaran from Helsinki, the Finnish capital on the other side of the Baltic Sea.
It has a hill overlooking the historic center and on which are the parliament building, the beautiful Orthodox church and another Protestant one, the presidential palace and beautiful terraces from which you can enjoy the panorama of the city.
The central square of the historic center is very large with beautiful buildings and restaurants and in the middle the Town Hall building from the 1400s.
Tallinn has walls that surround the historic center with many conical towers and cobbled streets.
Immediately outside the center there are various parks, the modern part with tall skyscrapers and futuristic architecture, shopping centers and the Rottermanni district, a bread factory with various buildings renovated in an excellent way with modern buildings that integrate with the old ones, with small squares and prestigious shops.
Further north the tourist port with various piers and other industrial areas as well as an area under renovation with a hangar containing a submarine.
On the days of my visit, the festival of the sea and Ukrainian culture was taking place in this area, with a nice concert of a really good Ukrainian band, Sonor.
Also Tallinn, like Riga, is a very lively city and its bars and restaurants in the historic center are always full of tourists and locals staying up late.
I also went to visit PARNU for half a day, the seaside resort of the country, a relaxing town with a beautiful center made up of pedestrian streets with old 18th century churches, a Swedish gate, an old tower, some prestigious villas and beautiful parks. Near the beautiful sandy beach there is a spa bathing establishment which for over a century has treated tourists with bone and skin problems with the use of its mud. Now it hosts the film festival together with other locations.
Towards the east towards Russia there is another beautiful city, TARTU, home to a prestigious university from 1734, a cultural city of the country with a beautiful historic centre, the beautiful town hall building, the hill above which houses a beautiful park, an astronomical observatory and other buildings that are part of the university.
Between the town hall building and the nearby river, there is a large square that stretches up to the bridge and is home to many bars and restaurants and beautiful buildings with interesting facades and pastel colours, including a leaning museum, the foundations of which have caved in on one side.
Tartu has several parks and modern buildings near the river and others that climb the hill overlooking the historic center.
Estonia is the richest country of the three Baltic republics and from this year it has applied the European currency of the euro.
The country it has only just over 1 million inhabitants and almost half live in the beautiful capital while the remaining half million divide up the vast green expanses covered by forests and pine forests and a large lake which it shares with neighboring Russia.
It also has 1,500 islands and two of them are very large and are located in the western part of the country.
A beautiful country that I recommend visiting.
