THE PREPARATION OF THE LONG JOURNEY OF SIX MONTHS
I did two, one in 2011-12 in Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, the other in Thailand, Malaysia and India in 2014-15
I generally organize the trip all by myself, I buy insurance for about 400 euros (Nomads) which covers me from illnesses and accidents such as theft, repatriation, etc... the international flight to the main location, in South East Asia is always Bangkok.
I do the recommended vaccinations (typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis, etc.) I buy several medicines, spending around 150 euros which I will never use and which I will end up throwing away when they expire.
From Bangkok I start the tour to the Thai islands and then I buy a low cost flight or to other countries Malaysia, Philippines, India.
For the second country, if it is large, I buy other low-cost internal flights and one or two nights in a hotel only if it is high season, otherwise I reach the center from the airport by bus or taxi if there is no public transport and then I find a hotel in a quarter of an hour.
I study with a travel guide of the country, often the Lonely Planet the recommended itinerary depending on the time available and I try to see all the attractions of the country, reserving a beach holiday.
Only once in the second trip did I decide to stay put for two months in Patong, Pukhet, Thailand, I thought shooting for six consecutive months would be excessive and tiring and it didn't go badly even though there were times when I felt like giving up the beach and start the tour right away, but I had already booked the flights and couldn't change. I made this choice because in the first six month trip I was always on tour and I got too tired.
