2014-15 six months trip to THAILAND (Pattaya, Koh Chang), India,Malaysia, Singapore revisited by heart 8 years later
at the end of the return journey from the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, I took a train at the border that took me to Bangkok and from there I continued by bus to Pattaya, the second largest city in the country which is also a tourist city having many beaches and nightlife among which many discos, bars, restaurants where meeting local women dedicated to prostitution is facilitated
I snubbed these places since I'm against sex tourism and I limited myself to having dinner in the evening markets and seeing some drag queen shows, the only alternative left
for several days I frequented a large beach not far from my hotel that I reached on a rented motorbike, it was all covered by umbrellas that had created a protected area in which not a single ray of sun filtered, on the other hand immediately beyond was the sandy shoreline and a beautiful clean sea
I made various excursions visiting other beaches further north, a large spectacular temple with a huge seated Buddha
all in all they were two pleasant weeks in a place that I had always snubbed before considering it a place of prostitution only, but that's not the case, it is also very popular with "normal" tourists and accompanying families
The last stop was the distant island of Koh Chang which means elephant and is also the name of one of the most popular beers and is located a short distance from the Cambodian coast
I reached her directly from Pattaya on one of those super-organized trips that only Thais are capable of offering
I stayed in a spartan tourist village made up of simple concrete bungalows with ASBESTOS roof
there was a bar-restaurant on the sea where I ate my meals and also spent the evenings as there was a dance floor which became a disco in the evening or I reached other places in the nearby town which housed many bars, meeting places and small hotels
I rented a motorbike and toured almost the whole island, including the very different northern coast, more mountainous and not very suitable for swimming, while the southern one was full of long beaches, some with large hotels and resorts, small neighboring islands, a village on stilts and piers suspended over the water
i spent three weeks of total relaxation reading various english books i found in the resort and taking long walks on the beach towards the sandy side as the one in front of my resort was stony
I went to that area in the late afternoon before sunset because before it was too hot, I took a cold beer and listened to the music played by the beach bar
when I returned to my bungalow after the shower I dressed up to avoid the dangerous mosquitoes that could spread a dangerous form of dengue hemorrhagic malaria unlike many naive tourists who stayed half naked until late at night
in the end I took a bus that took me directly to the Bangkok airport to fly back home
