1989 ALGERIA a trip revisited by heart 34 years later
It was a beautiful group trip by jeep with two Tuareg drivers who also knew Paris, therefore educated people, in the desert of red rocks and sand dunes in the deep south, under Tamanrasset which we reached by plane after a 4-hour flight from Algiers, the beautiful white capital of mixed style, European due to the French and Arab colonial domination for its souks, medinas and bazaars
the area visited is part of the Hoggar Tassilli and is full of rock paintings, pinnacles of rocks of various colors, we slept outdoors under the stars in our sleeping bags after the dinner prepared by the Arab cook, a dirty idiot who cleaned his ship with the same rag he used to clean the pans
the same had a phalanx of his middle finger cut off as he inserted his hand into the engine fan during a repair following a breakdown, so he had the alibi to do nothing more and we were happy about it
the company was mainly made up of very nice people from Turin, mostly trade unionists from ENEL as the trip was an exchange between our electricity company and the Algerian company of the same name
the guide was a university student from Algiers who welcomed us in the capital and introduced us to his city and also Timgad a place with Roman mosaics where there was a slight earthquake
in the Hoggar Tassilli we also visited the Assekrem, the hermitage of Pere FoucaUld, a French friar who did a lot for the locals after traveling to Morocco and living in the desert studying the Tuareg language, he had the hermitage built to welcome the poor who returned the favor by slaughtering him in 1916, he was recently first declared a saint and then blessed
